Cats, also known as the house or domestic cat, are the most popular pets in the world. These carnivorous (meat eating) little mammals from the Felidae family have been tamed for almost 10,000 years. A young cat is called a kitten, an unneutered female is called a queen, and an unneutered male is a tom. There are many breeds of cats, including the Persian, the Manx, and the Siamese. Cat breeds are separated into two groups, the short-hairs and the long-hairs.

History

Throughout history, cats were mainly kept by humans for their skills at hunting mice. The Egyptians considered them so valuable that they were protected by law, and eventually, worshipped as gods. Later on, in the Middle Ages, cats were believed to be demons and were put to death along with their owners. Now, they are more commonly kept as pets, due to their intelligent and friendly behavior.

Food

Store-bought cat food comes in two different forms, dry (also known as kibble) and wet. Dry food is more popular than wet, because it keeps better, its cheaper, and it cleans cats teeth. Many cat owners make homemade recipes, usually made out of raw meat, vegetables, and vitamins.
